Alki Arts 'bows out' gracefully downtown
Wed, 03/09/2016
After operating successfully in a location on Alki Beach, adjacent to the Cactus Restaurant for several years before Cassis and now the Maree Bistro took over the space, Alki Arts run by Diane Venti moved downtown, first to a spot near the Harbor Steps on the Seattle waterfront and then to 1124 1st Ave. where the gallery flourished.
Now, the gallery and event space has once again lost its lease and Venti shared the news via email to all her many friends.
Dear friends & fans of Alki Arts,
Dear Friends and Fans of Alki Arts-
What a great ride we have had! Three gallery locations & six years of showing the artwork of over 100 local artists and booking almost 150 musical acts!
Back in 2010 we hatched the 'big idea' to sub-lease prime commercial locations that were sitting empty in a 'down economy' so that we could showcase affordable, local, original art. The plan was perfect and we have in the process sold thousands of pieces of art and made so many wonderful friends.
The economy is rebounding though and the city is changing in that affordable retail spaces have become scarce. So, when we recently got the notice that our space on 1st & Seneca had been leased to a long-term tenant, we concluded that this would be a good time for us to 'bow out gracefully'.
We will continue to sell art online so please stay tuned to our website while we transition. We will also continue to curate offices and commercial spaces privately as art reps. So feel free to continue contacting us for your art needs, as we will stay tightly aligned with our family of artists.
By way of a 'last hurrah' please join us Sunday, March 20th from 6-8 for an 'old home week' concert with our good friend Jeff Hayes & company. Of course, we welcome you to come early to shop! We want the art in the gallery to go to good homes while we have a space to show it! Every day through the end of March the gallery will be open from 12-6, so come see all of the fabulous artwork from our amazing local artists.
We have brand new LARGE-SCALE paintings by Robin Weiss! All of you Robin Weiss fans must see these in person!
Also, this might be your last chance to purchase a Michael Birawer original! So take advantage of having this national artist showing here in Seattle!
Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for all of your support over the last six years...from Alki, to the Harbor Steps, to First Avenue...you took this journey with us and we thank you.
On behalf of Tom, the kids, and all of the local artists.
With affection-Diane Venti
