BURIEN - Playing strongly in their home gym, the Kennedy Catholic Lancer boys basketball controlled all avenues to take third place in the 2017 Sterling Christmas Shootout on Thurs., Dec. 28, with dominating 83-60 win against Woodinville.
Leading 55-47 after three quarters, the Lancers had their lead sliced to 57-52 with 6:41 remaining in the fourth quarter before regaining full control with the tactics that kept them in the lead for most of the game.
Short range baskets propagated by blistering defense sent Kennedy Catholic running away at the end.
Chancellor Hilliard, Trenton Morrison and Michael Spitzer enlarged upon their already solid play as Will Seubert and Adam Olufson joined in the Lancer 26-8 run to the finish.
Early action showed Kennedy Catholic leading 17-10 after one quarter and pulling the strings for a 34-12 second quarter margin. The Falcons later turned a 37-25 deficit into a closer 37-31 disadvantage at the half.
Woodinville stayed in range with a 7-0 run late in the third quarter to trail only 47-43 before an Alexander 3-pointer skirted the Lancers away, again, as part of the Lancer ride into a 55-47 third quarter control.
Four Kennedy Catholic Lancers scored in double figures with Alexander leading the way with 21 points plus three assists. Hilliard added 17 and Spitzer was at 14 tallies. Anders Hunt put up 13 points and four assists.
Cage Schenck foraged his way for 21 Woodinville Falcon points.
