Cafe Osita, a fixture near the highest point in Seattle at 7349 35th SW for the last 8 years will be doing a major expansion into the space just south of the micro cafe/coffee shop this Spring.
Owner Andrea Ramirez said the new space will be "about 2/3rds larger" than the present space and should be open by this summer in July though it could be sooner.
The plan is to install a new kitchen, create a bar with seating for 10 to 12 people (though no beer and wine), and offer, "more of the same but a bigger selection" said Andrea. They've built a solid following offering breakfast "sammies", cold sandwiches, pastries, a rotating selection of house made soups and of course a wide variety of coffee beverages. They will bake more of their own pastries and have two soups a day.
Take out will be a major focus and the cafe "will have a dsplay fridge so you can take it home and heat it up yourself," said Andrea.
The cafe may even get new name. Osita means "little bear" and with a larger size a name change might be appropriate though nothing is certain as yet.
We will operate the coffeeshop in the morning and it will close in mid-afternoon and then the restaurant side will open and offer lunch and dinner. We want to be able to add to the menu as we get bigger," Andrea said.
The cafe will also hire kitchen staff and "I'll actually have two days off week! That's the goal!," Andrea said laughing.
