Southwest Seattle Historical Society—in partnership with Seattle Public Library—is launching our new 2018 season of “Southwest Stories,” a speakers series featuring historical stories from the Duwamish Peninsula.

Our speaker Phil Hoffman—guest curator at the Log House Museum—presents his talk on Navigating to Alki: Early Maps of the Duwamish Peninsula, a story told through maps of the growth and development of Alki and the northern end of the Duwamish Peninsula through 1907. Drawing upon the historical maps collection of the United States Coast Survey and scholarly work assembling the history of the Duwamish people, the Alki and Peninsula’s progression from a ‘land untouched’ prior to the European-American exploration to emergence as a residential, recreation and industrial center is chronicled.
Phil Hoffman says, “Outtakes and bonus features not appearing in the museum exhibit are given prominence in this presentation.”
