Loop the Lupe sees 400 turnout for obstacle course and fun run fundraiser
Sat, 06/02/2018
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church held its 2nd annual Loop the Lupe event on June 2 with more than 400 people signed up to take part. It's an obstacle course, fun run (and senior saunter) fundraiser that will provide ongoing support for the athletic programs and social outreach work the church does from the Walmesley Center. Brian Callanan, speaking on behalf of the event said, "Last year we raised $11,000 and hope to do more even though we have added a lot to it. It's a heavy lift but that's out goal."
Loop the ‘Lupe featured a 1K “loop” around Walt Hundley Playfield, where participants raced under, over, and through seven obstacles (two new ones added in 2018), including a mud pit, walls, “Squirtgun Alley,” and more.
Proceeds from Loop the ‘Lupe support the Walmesley Center at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. The Center has been one of the area’s most utilized facilities for sports and social outreach work since opening in 2012:
- More than 24,000 kids/family members participating in athletic programs
- More than 10,000 free community meals given to those in need
- Annual blood drives/flu shot clinics
- Vacation Bible Camps, weddings, cultural events, and more!
