Looking for something fun to try on the westside as the week comes to a close and the weekend beckons?
Check out this list of possibilities, selected by news intern Jade Buchanan-Moh :
BALLARD
Head to Ballard for Hi Crime, Lofty Stills, Jason McCue. Hi Crime’s airy psychedelic melodies are beautifully complemented by Lofty Stills’ somewhat sturdier but equally melodic creations. If your goal for the night is to feel as though you’re drifting among clouds, basking in the sun as a soft sea breeze kisses your cheeks, then this is the place to be.

Or sign up for a cooking lesson, focused on Japanese okonomiyaki, from chef Becky Selengut. Filled with a rainbow of different ingredients — from fried calamari to pork belly to shiitake mushrooms — it’s no wonder these taste sensations are a staple in Japanese cuisine. Topped with bonito flakes and handmade sauces, think “the soul food of Japan.”

Seattle, WA 98117

What could be better than a warm summer night spent enjoying an excellent movie with your favorite canine companion?

After something a little more artsy? Try Northern Exposure: Contemporary Nordic Arts Revealed. The sculpture of contemporary Scandinavian artists Cajsa von Zeipel and Kim Simonsson create a clean and minimalist yet intricate and surreal atmosphere. Zeipel’s work showcases expression through sexuality, all while preserving a space for intimacy and vulnerability. In contrast, Simonsson emphasizes the innocence and curiosity that is accompanied by youth. Pieces by Olafur Eliasson and Bjarne Melgaard contribute flashes of bold color, while Tori Wrånes’ unusual installations add an element of uniqueness to the exhibit.
