The Monster Dash has become a fall tradition for families and running enthusiasts throughout West Seattle and beyond. Last year we had 350 participants, 47 community partners and many families and community members attended to cheer on the racers and see the costume contest.
Your financial contribution, in addition to offsetting the cost of producing our race, is key in supporting our five preschool sites - Admiral, Alki, Lincoln Park, South Seattle College and White Center. One hundred percent of Monster Dash proceeds are put into the Cooperative Preschool joint fund [Nonprofit 501(c)(3) #911003988].
The Parent Advisory Committee uses proceeds from the Monster Dash to fund free or low cost Community Outreach programming and equity initiatives such as:
- Public movie Screenings - Screenagers and The Mask You Live In.
- Public seminar - "Anti-Bias Education in Challenging Times: Responding to Children's Questions about Differences" with guest speaker, Debbie LeeKeenan, co-author of 'Leading Anti-bias Early Childhood Programs: A Guide for Change.'
- Public seminar - Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids with Dr. Laura Markham
- Public Workshop - Celebrate Calm: Working with Explosive Children with guest speakers Kirk and Casey Martin
- And many more...
Through our partnership with South Seattle College, we have served hundreds of families for over 50 years, providing an engaging, developmentally appropriate preschool environment for children, and parenting support through the SSC Home and Family Life program.
