Ballard bumped from playoffs
It's called being done to soon.
Ballard's football team finally broke into the Seattle Times' state top 10 Class 3A rankings at No. 10 with a stellar 9-0 record before getting bumped from the state playoff picture the next day.
The Beavers journeyed North to play No. 7 ranked Marysville Pilchuck in a state play-in game Friday and took the Wesco champions to the wire before coming up short by a 28-25 score.
Ballard finished at 9-1 and came in as the Metro League No. 7 seed after going undefeated in the league's second tier division and defeating Ingraham in a playoff last week.
Marysville-Pilchuck (10-0) advances to the Final 16 level of the state Class 3A playoffs next week.
West Seattle 38, Evergreen 12
West Seattle won Friday's home non-playoff game against the Wolverines of White Center at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
Both teams finished with a 2-7 overall record.
Newport 56, Chief Sealth 27
Chief Sealth journeyed to Newport for a non-playoff Thursday and lost a high-scoring game.
Volleyball
NPSL tournament
Kennedy Catholic finished fifth and Mount Rainier seventh at the North Puget Sound League Class 4A tournament that concluded Saturday at Kentwood.
The Lancers won the fifth place match over Kentwood, 25-12, 25-17, 25-21, and the Rams took seventh by outlasting Auburn, 21-25, 19-25, 25-14, 25-18, 18-5.
Earlier in the day Kennedy defeated Mount Rainier, 25-24, 25-20, 25-20.
Both teams advance to the West Central District tournament.
Metro tournament
Ballard and West Seattle both advance to the Sea-King District 3A tournament after taking sixth and ninth, respectively, at the Metro League tournament that concluded Saturday at Chief Sealth.
Ballard dropped the fifth place match to Lakeside by a 3-0 score to settle for sixth after winning, 3-0, over Nathan Hale earlier Saturday.
West Seattle had to win twice Saturday to take ninth place and did so.
The Wildcats won by 3-0 scores over both Franklin and Holy Names.
WCD 2A tournament
Highline and Foster both bowed out of the West Central District Class 2A tournament with a loss Saturday.
Foster fell, 3-0, to North Mason and the Pirates were downed, 3-0, by Kingston.
Girls soccer
Steilacoom 2, Highline 0
The Pirates were eliminated from the South Puget Sound League Class 2A playoffs with the Saturday, Nov. 2 loss at Franklin Pierce Stadium.
