Due to the overwhelming public interest in the case of Detective Mike Brown, who has been under investigation since early July, 2020 for allegedly posting offensive memes on Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office is sharing this update with the media and community.

The Internal Investigation is complete. As is standard protocol, the findings were sent to Undersheriff Patti Cole-Tindall for review. Based on the evidence gathered, as outlined in the attached findings memo, Undersheriff Cole-Tindall is recommending Detective Brown’s employment at KCSO be terminated.

Today, Detective Brown was served with these findings. It is important to note this is not the final step. Detective Brown has a right to a meeting with the Sheriff to present his position prior to the Sheriff making a final disciplinary decision. 

The Sheriff’s Office is currently working with Detective Brown’s union representatives to schedule that meeting.

The investigation continues into the conduct of other KCSO employees who may have provided some response to Brown’s postings.
