Because of excessive, record-setting heat in the Puget Sound, Seattle Public Schools announced that all meal distribution sites will be closed today, Monday, June 28, 2021.
“As the majority of meal distribution is outdoors, we’re concerned about the risks to students and families gathering to collect meals, the risks to the SPS Nutrition Services staff who operate the sites, and we’re also concerned about food safety,” said Fred Podesta, SPS Chief Operations Officer.
Mr. Podesta said that it is expected that all meal distribution sites will be open and resume normal operations tomorrow, Tuesday, June 29, 2021.
SPS has alerted all student families by email, robo-call, social media posts, translated texts, the SPS website, and news release.
