information from Seattle Department of Transportation
Starting as early as Monday, October 18, we'll begin digging holes to locate utilities in preparation for installing new pipes to hold a new communication line beneath the Duwamish Waterway. This communication line allows the Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge) to open and close.
This work is part of the Low Bridge Controls Project, where we will be rerouting the wires connecting the control tower that allow the low bridge to open and close for maritime traffic off the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge (high bridge) – where they are today – to a new location under the waterway. These new location is roughly 4-inches in diameter and more than 20-feet below the riverbed.
Detour signage will be in place to direct people walking and biking to access the trail just south of SW Spokane St. On the west side, there will be partial closures of the access road.
