information from Waterfront Seattle
Construction of the new Alaskan Way is reaching another milestone. On Friday, Nov. 12 (weather permitting), the Waterfront Seattle project will reduce Alaskan Way to one lane in each direction between South King and South Main streets to move southbound traffic onto new concrete lanes.
The traffic shift will be completed by Nov. 15 and includes opening a new southbound transit lane, new sidewalks and part of the new bike path on the west side of Alaskan Way.
Crews will be working around the clock to transition traffic to this new configuration safely and efficiently. Find more construction news in the Waterfront Seattle weekly construction email or visit Waterfront Seattle and sign up for alerts here.
Alaskan Way improvements mean changes for all at Colman Dock
Much has changed on Alaskan Way near Colman Dock recently. Please pay special attention to bicyclists and pedestrians at these locations, as everyone adjusts to the new bike and ped paths:
- Entering the Pier 48 ferry holding lanes from South Jackson—at times the left turn-lane pocket may be closed during the work weekend, but uniformed police officers are scheduled to be there to assist drivers into Pier 48.
- Leaving the Pier 48 ferry holding lanes to get in line for the Colman Dock ticketing booth
- Entering the Colman Dock ticketing booth at Yesler Way, and
- Exiting Colman Dock at Yesler Way—starting Monday morning, Nov. 15, a new transit only lane will be open in the southbound direction. Please be aware of this new transit lane as you turn right onto Alaskan Way to ensure that you’re getting into the general travel lanes.
