Due to a damaged utility pole, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has closed West Marginal Way SW in both directions near the intersection of SW Marginal Place, just south of SW Spokane St Bridge (West Seattle Low Bridge). A vehicle hit a utility pole that caused the pole and its wires to fall on the roadway.
This area is closed to all travelers for public safety, including people biking, walking, and rolling. The road will remain closed until further notice and will be reopened once Seattle City Light (SCL) crews verify that the area is safe to travel through. SDOT encourages travelers to find alternate routes if you are driving in and around the area.
West Marginal Way SW will be open to local access. If you must travel through the area, travelers heading northbound on West Marginal Way SW will need to make a u-turn at West Marginal Way Place. Southbound travelers will need to make a u-turn at the intersection of Chelan Avenue SW, SW Spokane St and West Marginal Way.
SCL crews are working to repair the damaged power equipment and wires so that the road can be reopened safely to travelers.
If you need to drive, please obey all traffic signs and follow detour routes, police directions, or find alternate routes. Notifications and travel advisories will be shared as streets reopen or conditions change.
