Girls basketball
West Seattle 50, Holy Names 40
The Wildcats nailed down a berth into next week's Class 3A state regional action with Tuesday's victory at Bellevue College.
West Seattle can finish no worse than fourth in the Sea-King District tournament and plays Garfield in a 3:30 p.m. Thursday semifinal back at Bellevue College.
Thursday's winner plays for the District championship at 8:15 p.m. Saturday and the loser plays for third and fourth at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
Both games will also be at Bellevue College.
Orting 56, Tyee 24
Tyee's impressive postseason run ended with Tuesday's home loss to Orting in the first game of the District 2/3 tournament.
Kingston 76, Highline 26
Highline journeyed to Kingston for its district opener Tuesday and took a loss.
Clover Park 49, Foster 7
Foster's season also ended with a road loss in district opening play Tuesday.
Boys basketball
Rainier Beach 48, Ballard 47
No. 12 seeded Ballard took No. 4 seeded Rainier Beach to the wire Tuesday before losing by one point.
The Beavers now find themselves in a loser-out situation, playing Eastside Catholic at 3:30 p.m. Friday back at Bellevue College.
Friday's winner plays for the No. 5 and No. 6 state regional berths at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bellevue College.
Lake Washington 68, West Seattle 56
No. 7 West Seattle fell to No. 2 Lake Washington Tuesday, dropping the Wildcats into a loser-out, winner-to-regionals game Friday.
Seattle Prep will provide the competition in the 6:30 p.m. game at Bellevue College. The winner plays the winner of the Ballard-Eastside Catholic game at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Annie Wright 86, SCS 79
Seattle Christian needs two straight wins to reach state regionals following Tuesday's 1A District 3 loss at Mount Tahoma.
The Warriors return to the same gym to play at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
Only two District 3 teams reach regionals.
