A map showing the paving and bike lane location on SW Andover St and SW Yancy Street.
SDOT map
SDOT has created more space for people to safely bike between existing protected bike lanes on SW Avalon Way and SW Andover Street. This project connects the neighborhoods near Delridge Way SW.
The area was the scene of a homeless encampment where several violent crimes were reported in the last few months. Now that area has been cleared. After it was cleared and volunteers did a full litter sweep of the area, a business voluntarily placed "eco-blocks" (cement blocks with handles) in the space to prevent RV parking.
The eco blocks were removed by the business that placed them. Following protocol, SDOT sent a warning notice after the concrete blocks were placed due to the lack of an approved street permit. The correspondence led to a productive conversation in which the business took responsibility for setting them and agreed to remove the eco blocks at their own expense. During discussions, SDOT shared plans for paving the street and discussed how the curb space and right of way currently work for businesses in the area.
They finished paving on SW Andover Street last week. They subsequently began striping the new street layout and bike lane. This will complete the project.
