Update 3:07am
The tree has been removed, and utility crews have completed their work on the downed lines. 35th Ave SW has been reopened. Reminder: You can always check current traffic status by looking at WestsideSeattle's Traffic page here
Approximately eight vehicles are on scene with numerous people assessing the situation but at this hour the tree still blocks the road. Crews from SDOT and Seattle Public Utilities are there and they must assess the potential for other tree falls, how to deal with the wires the tree is leaning on, and how to best remove the fallen tree, which broke at mid-stem according to West Seattle naturalist Kersti Muul.
It's likely the tree will be gone by the time morning commuters will need the road.
