The Seattle Colleges, including South Seattle College will join in the 50th Annual Community Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Friday, January 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Rev. Sharon Risher will be the keynote speaker. DaNell Daymon and Greater Works gospel choir will perform their award-winning music. Monique Ming Laven, KIRO 7 Evening Anchor, will emcee.

About Rev. Sharon Risher:
Rev. Sharon Washington Risher was catapulted into the limelight after the Charleston, South Carolina, shooting at the Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on June 17, 2015, where her mother was killed along with eight others, including two of her cousins and a childhood friend. Since that horrific tragedy, Rev. Risher has been outspoken about the nation’s gun laws. She is now one of the national spokespersons for the grassroots advocacy groups Everytown and Moms Demand Gun Sense. She has appeared on CNN and was interviewed by Time Magazine, Marie-Claire magazine, The Guardian, and BBC radio, among others.
