A Love Letter from Dawnelle, Our First Employee:
"It was love at first sight. I know many people joke about falling in love
with a taco truck, but I truly did. I was in my late thirties and my girls were 3 and 1 and I didn't know that I needed you so much.
It was the summer of 2009 and food trucks were just starting to break
into the Seattle scene. Roz Edison and Kamala Saxton were the creators and little did they know the taco empire that they would create. People came from all over the city, the state, the country to visit you. You were
shiny and so very pretty and you were aptly named, "Big Blue."
You were my vessel for years helping me to meet new faces, take orders, shampoo, rinse and repeat. I felt like I was finally celebrated for being
ME, it's the people and events that you brought me that gave me so
much joy! I navigated ten years of my life while being aboard you, day
to day life, raising my daughters, my cancer diagnosis, and the MANY relationships that I have formed with customers and co-workers. These
are truly some of the best years of my life.""The world is different now, forever changed by the events of the last few years. You are not a spring chicken (like myself) and you don't go out
anymore (like myself). You've been resting in Columbia City, your home for over a year and it's time to give you a new lease on life. With much consideration Roz and Kamala have made the difficult but enormously
generous decision to donate you to South Seattle College. Your new home is filed with eager students that will get to learn about
your mechanics (and get you up and running again! and the culinary students will get to work on you as intended and create new worlds for you and for themselves. You wil be their vessel as they cook and vend
with the proceeds going toward their programs!!! I can't think of a
better place for you to live the rest of your life. I will cherish the memories from over the vears and you can rest assured that youare loved."
"I love you Big Blue, thank you for everything."-Dawnelle, Marinator #1
