With a combined fifty years of experience the crew at Burger Planet in White Center have made nearly every cuisine in the world. The owner Marco Jimenez and his chef Marco Chavez both came from the world of corporate cooking for well known restaurants like Cactus and thousands at Microsoft. Seeking something he could call his own Jimenez opened his Burger Planet food truck in 2017. Now they've opened in the former Zippy's Burgers location at 9614 14th SW.
They oepn now in soft open status. The grand opening is set for Sept. 30th.
From the beginning the idea was to blend a space theme with a menu reflective of his experience as a chef having made everything from teriyaki to Italian food.
"Working at Microsoft we learned food from all over the world," said Chavez, " Every single day every one of 19 stations was a different concept." They served 5500 people a day. "We worked with Indian food, Thai food and then a Mongolian Grill, then Teriyaki and then Pho."
All that means they became masters of many different kinds of food preparation.
The menu is all burgers of course but the beef is top quality Wagyu Beef, the chicken is a real chicken breast, and the Gunga Burger for example is grilled Mahi Mahi, lettuce, grilled pineapple, pico de gallo, and avocado aioli on a brioche bun. That combination shows the care with which they choose what goes into their food. Their experience shows up in every bite. A good burger should be a blend of flavors, made from high quality ingredients that end up being more than their sum. "We choose ingredients carefully and that go well together," Jimenez said.
Veggie (Bean) burgers are made from their own blend and any burger can be served as a salad for those seeking gluten free options.
Are they gourmet burgers? "They are but we don't call them that. Some people make a burger and put a piece of brie cheese on it and call it gourmet. So these are more craft burgers," Chavez said. "I don't use purple onions on my burgers," Jimenez said," I use sweet white onions because they taste better. Every single thing has been chosen."
