Seattle Parks and Recreation
Information from Seattle Parks and Recreation
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) invites the community to review the design and provide final community input on possible additional features for the West Seattle Junction future park site at 4723-4731 40th Ave. SW. Please join the design team on October 10, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. on the site at 4731 40th Ave. SW. and participate in the future park.
SPR purchased the .65-acre property in 2012 to provide open space for the West Seattle Junction neighborhood. SPR hosted a number of community events to gather input prior to the project being put on hold during the pandemic. GGLO, the design firm for the park and SPR encourage the community to participate in this short surveyhttps://seattle.surveymonkey.com/r/WestSeattleJunction to provide final feedback on the park design. The future park will incorporate accessibility features in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and provide access to open space within this high-density urban village.
The Seattle Park District funds the development of this parcel into a park. The voter-approved Seattle Park District provides long-term funding to tackle major maintenance backlog for Seattle Parks and Recreation as well as other facilities including the Aquarium and Zoo. In addition, it will improve and rehabilitate community centers, preserve the urban forest, perform day-to-day maintenance of parks and facilities, provide more recreation opportunities for people from underserved communities, increase programs for people of all ages and abilities, and acquire and develop new park land.
