Information from Seattle Department of Transportation
We have a Healthy Streets update for the West Seattle community! In 2022 we conducted outreach and shared design concepts to community at in-person events and collected comments on proposed design and in 2023 evaluated the community’s feedback on the proposed design to consider potential design modifications.
We are excited to share the updated design plans based on what the community strongly desired, which is to construct an additional walking/biking area along the beach front and to connect the existing bike lane on Alki Ave SW along Beach Dr SW.
The new design includes:
- # of ADA parking spaces: 3
- # of speed humps: 3
- # of parking we're removing (on Beach Dr SW from 3300 Beach Dr SW to 64th Ave SW): approx. 61 spaces
- # of parking spaces available (on Beach Dr SW from 3300 Beach Dr SW to 64th Ave SW): approx. 48 spaces
- # of parking we're removing (Cul-de-sac area: raised crosswalk to 64th Pl SW): approx. 6
Construction for the permanent Healthy Street is anticipated in Spring 2024. Existing public parking has also been identified in the area for possible re-striping, improved signage, or other updates to better indicate its availability for visitors. Please visit the Alki Point Healthy Street webpage for more information.
Additionally, SDOT crews recently installed upgraded temporary Healthy Street signs with a durable concrete cylinder base! The new temporary Healthy Street signs are stronger and more stable, reducing the amount of movement or damage impacting the signs.
