Boys basketball
West Seattle will play for the Metro League's No. 5 and No. 6 berths to district Thursday, taking on Nathan Hale in a 5:30 p.m. game in the Lincoln of Seattle gymnasium.
Win or lose, the Wildcats open Sea-King District action Saturday.
Mount Rainier opens Class 4A District 3/4 tournament action Saturday with a 7 p.m. home game against Graham-Kapowsin.
Saturday's game is loser-out.
Girls basketball
The West Seattle girls are also playing for fifth and sixth place in the Metro League Thursday, battling Holy Names in a 5:30 p.m. home game.
The Wildcats enter Sea-King District action Saturday.
Kennedy Catholic, meanwhile, opens District 3/4 play with a 4 p.m. Saturday trip to South Kitsap.
That game is a loser-out affair.

Kraken
Seattle returns to action after the All-Star break Saturday, paying a 4 p.m. visit to Philadelphia.
The Kraken are at New Jersey at the same time Monday before visiting the New York Islanders at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Saturday's action will be televised on ESPN+ and Hulu with ROOT Sports Northwest carrying the other two games.
Thunderbirds
Seattle visits Kamloops for 7 p.m. Western Hockey League action this Wednesday before coming home to the Showare Center in Kent to face off against Vancouver at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
The Thunderbirds go to Portland to play at 6 p.m. Saturday and drop in on the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
Silvertips
Everett is at Wenatchee for 7 p.m. Friday play and comes home to take on Spokane in a 6:05 p.m. Saturday contest at the Angel of the Winds Arena.
The Silvertips visit Portland at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Stars
Tacoma's indoor soccer team visits the Kansas City Comets at 5:05 p.m. Friday before crossing Missouri to play the St. Louis Ambush at 4:05 p.m. Saturday.

Husky men
Washington goes to Oregon for a 7 p.m. Thursday game on Fox Sports 1 before visiting Oregon State at 4 p.m. Saturday on the Pac-12 network.
Cougar men
Washington State visits Oregon State for 7 p.m. Thursday action and visits Oregon at 2 p.m. Saturday with both games on the Pac-12 network.
Husky women
The UW hosts Stanford at 7 p.m. Friday on Pac-12BAY and California at noon Sunday on Pac-12WA.
Cougar women
California comes to the Palouse for 7 p.m. Friday action and Stanford visits at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Friday's game is on Pac-12WA and Sunday's on the Pac-12 network.
