Original Post 8:51am
A fire in the engine room of the 78 foot Sally Fox King County water taxi Friday morning. The craft was at the Seacrest Park pier at the time. The park and pier are located at 1660 Harbor Ave SW in West Seattle.
The fire system aboard activated and the doors to the engine room closed. Typically marine vessels employ a freon fire supression system that acts on the heat factor of a fire by cooling it rapidly. Marine fire systems are designed to extinguish a fire in less than 10 seconds after discharge.
The water taxi is currently out of service. They expect to have the Spirit of Kingston provide service by midday.
