The Southwest Seattle Historical Society has announced the passing of past Board President Kathy Blackwell. She died on February 2, 2024.
Kathy served as a very hardworking Board President for several years until she resigned in July 2023 when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Kathy had been an active volunteer for SWSHS and was a leader of our Gala for years.
Kathy was gracious, kind, and committed to SWSHS. She generously shared her time and talents. We miss her deeply. Our community is lessened by her passing.
The family does not currently have a memorial service scheduled. It will be announced if scheduled.
Kathy's daughter, Laurie de Koch, requested we share this note on her family's behalf:
“My mom deeply loved the Southwest Seattle Historical Society and its commitment to both preserving history and building community around our collective future. While she shied away from public acknowledgement, feeling genuinely committed to the collective effort that was the historical society, it was her hope that in lieu of flowers people would honor her legacy by supporting the Southwest Historical Society.”
