It was April 7 2023 that Ka'Don Brown was shot to death. The case remains unsolved but his mother Maxine Brooks and more than 20 of his friends and family came to the place his body was found on a corner of the Sealth High School campus on this sad anniversary to remind people they are still demanding justice, still seeking information that will lead to an arrest.
Nearly 21, Ka'Don was a young man who loved music, video games, and basketball, and he often played at the Southwest Athletic Complex (SWAC) on Thistle Street in West Seattle. He especially loved football, basketball and spending time with his family.
He had gone to the SWAC on the evening of April 7 to play some video games and basket ball, Maxine said.
She got a call from him at 10:44pm. She was unable to answer but did call back a few minutes later and he did not take the call.
Calls to 911 claimed they heard shots in the area between 10:30 and 11:00 pm.
Ka’Don never made it home.
His body was found the next morning under a tree on Southwest corner of the Sealth High School campus just off the street.
Maxine said she was later allowed to look at the school's surveillance video but the camera only covers the parking lot, so no footage of what took place exists.
She said they have further plans to continue keeping his memory alive and hopefully prompt someone to make a call or come forward to get justice for Ka'Don.
His death was the first of a series of shooting deaths in West Seattle over the last year iincluding the death of 27 year old Rayshawn Parker last July.
22-year-old Derrion Lewis and 17-year-old Lederian Thomas were charged with Murder in the Second Degree in that case.
Most recently was the shooting that took the life of Mobarak Adam, 15 at the Southwest Athletic Complex on January, 23. That shooting too remains unsolved.
