SAKA: Transportation Levy would have District 1 impacts
Fri, 07/12/2024
District 1 City Councilmember Rob Saka shared news about the new Seattle Transportation Levy. He shared the news in his weekly newsletter to constituents:
On Tuesday, July 9th, the full Council UNANIMOUSLY passed the most robust transportation levy package, and on the next day, the Mayor signed the bill during a celebratory bill-signing event!
This levy is your levy. It was carefully and collaboratively crafted to best position our City to deliver the everyday basics in an extraordinary way, if approved by the people of Seattle. Now it is up to the voters to decide, as it will be on the ballot this November...
If approved by voters, the eight-year $1.55 billion Transportation Levy will provide funding to enhance the city’s transportation infrastructure including building sidewalks, paving streets, repairing bridges, and improving transit connections. The levy includes generational investments in the safety, maintenance, and modernization needs of Seattle’s transportation infrastructure and incorporates robust community input.
The current Levy to Move Seattle expires at the end of 2024 and this levy replaces the expired levy and represents roughly 30% of the Seattle Department of Transportation’s budget. Under this new levy package, the estimated property tax bill for the median assessed value home would be $499 per year or $18.58 per month more than the expiring levy."
The measure goes before voters in November.
