At 6:23am on July 10, officers responded to the area of 30 Ave SW/SW Roxbury St, to assist Seattle Fire who was extinguishing a brush fire with the suspect still at the scene.

Witnesses informed officers that the male suspect was seen throwing items into the fire causing it to grow. SFD extinguished the tree which was adjacent to a building. The fire caused some exterior damage to the building; it did not spread any further.

The suspect was taken into custody with PC for Investigation of Reckless Burning 1.

After a records check, the suspect returned with several unverified misdemeanor warrants for reckless burning. Post Miranda, the suspect admitted to starting the fire by throwing a lit cigarette at the tree. The suspect was transported and booked to KCJ for felony Reckless Burning. This incident was screened with 251 and ABS.
