The shop is tiny but the taste is huge. Chely Fit Smithgall is the baker behind The Fine Baking Co. at 6969 California Ave SW offering custom cupcakes, cakes, cakepops and more.

Chely Fit Smithgall is a woman of many talents and her new shop The Fine Banking Co at 6969 Calfornia Ave SW is sweet proof.
"I'm a cost accountant and I'm a Zumba instructor. But a couple of years ago I got laid off from my remote job because they closed the the department, she said. So it was time to shift gears
"I started just baking and I bought a printer for cookies just as a hobby" That printer allowed her to leverage her skill with Photoshop too, printing favorite images with food grade coloring.
"I started showing them to my friends and giving them away, and they all liked them! I'm like, 'Oh, this might be working..' And I I don't even know when I started making cupcakes and cakes. I don't even know how it happened. It's so easy for me to decorate for some reason. And I didn't know that. So I just watched videos and then with trial and error I learned how to do everything."
She's not kidding. Even the "frosting drip" design inside the shop as wall decor was her idea and it's part of her logo now.
Her cupcakes are sold in the shop for $3 each and she accepts custom orders, with one dozen minimum. If you want a custom image like a cartoon, or photo or painting it's 50 cents more each.
Chely is happy to make cakes, cake pops, cookies of course and even half sheet cakes but isn't equipped at this point to bake larger scale wedding cakes.
The Fine Baking Co. is open Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm and they are located at 6969 California Ave SW.
