Kennedy 49, Richland 7
Kennedy Catholic opened the state Class 4A playoffs by blasting the Richland Bombers in a game played Friday at Highline Memorial.
The No. 4 state seeded Lancers ran their overall record to 11-0.
Next up is a home state quarterfinal against No. 5-seeded Gonzaga Prep of Spokane at a day and time to be announced.
Volleyball
West Seattle
The Wildcats won the District 2 Class 3A championship with a 3-0 Saturday victory over Liberty of Renton in the Lakeside of Seattle gymnasium.
West Seattle beat Bellevue by a 3-0 margin earlier in the day after opening with a 3-1 win Thursday over Roosevelt.
The Wildcats advance to the state tournament to take place next Friday and Saturday at the Yakima Valley Sun Dome.
Chief Sealth
The Seahawks journeyed to the Yakima Valley Sun Dome for the Class 2A state tournament this weekend, taking seventh place.
Chief Sealth won the match for seventh and eighth Saturday by a 3-2 score over Toppenish.
The Seahawks topped Nathan Hale, 3-0, Saturday morning after capping off Friday with a 3-0 victory over Sultan.
Chief Sealth took a 3-0 loss to Tumwater to open the tournament Friday morning.
Kennedy Catholic
The Lancers secured second place in the Class 4A District 3/4 tournament, losing by a 3-0 score to Curtis in the Saturday championship match.
Kennedy Catholic opened the tournament with a 3-0 Friday win over Spanaway Lake before beating Olympia later that day, 3-1.
The Lancers swept Camas, 3-0, Saturday morning.
Their state tournament will also take place at the Yakima Valley Sun Dome next Friday and Saturday.
Mount Rainier
The lady Rams barely missed going to the state 4A tournament as well, being outlasted in Saturday's match for the final berth, 3-2, by Olympia.
Mount Rainier won its District 3/4 opener Friday, 3-1, over Graham-Kapowsin before losing to Camas, 3-0, Friday evening.
The Rams downed Skyview, 3-0, Saturday morning to make the Olympia match.
Girls soccer
West Valley 9, Chief Sealth 0
The Seahawks traveled all the way to Spokane for state 2A playoff action this past Wednesday, only to take a lopsided loss to West Valley of Spokane on the University High School field.
