The community service group A Cleaner Alki showcased their commitment to maintaining the beauty and accessibility of Schmitz Reserve Park this morning, following the aftermath of last week's bomb cyclone. The storm wreaked havoc within the park, causing significant damage to its interior and blocking several trails with downed trees and debris.
Doug, the first to arrive on the scene, quickly began clearing branches near the bridge, which he had left the previous day. Shortly after, Dave joined the effort, and the duo worked their way up the trail. They encountered several Big Leaf Maples, Redwoods, and Cedars that had come down during the storm. While they were cutting branches off some Cedars that were blocking the east trail, Dan and Mitch from the Schmitz Park Creek Restore project arrived to lend a hand. Together, the team made swift progress, efficiently tackling the mess.
The group didn't stop there. They continued their cleanup mission by addressing three more blocked trails, removing all the branches and leaving the larger logs for Seattle Parks & Recreation to handle. The productive morning was a testament to the dedication and teamwork of the volunteers, who not only restored the trails but also ensured the park remained a safe and welcoming space for all visitors.
