On Tuesday April 22, 2025, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell visited the Unified Outreach Vibrant Journalism Club at Denny Middle School in West Seattle, where he fielded a variety of questions from students. I was lucky enough to be there with my iPhone and caught some great video, which I am sharing with you now.
The Mayor's visit, kept low key and did not include any fanfare, no invitation to the media, and no special accolades, let the students and the Unified Outreach staff know that he was there for the students and not as a publicity stunt. A great event where the Mayor gave 100% of his attention to the students of the Vibrant Magazine Journalism Club, answering a wide-range of student written questions, from public safety to his favorite local artists, and inquiries about the economy as well as questions about local sports.
The stand-out moment of the day was an impromptu student vs Mayor push up contest, highlighting the Mayor's genuine and honest demeanor, his spontaneous nature, and his ability to connect with people. Look for a full write-up of the event in the June issue of Vibrant Entertainment & Arts Magazine.
