Original post:
Big Al’s Brewing of White Center teamed up with West Seattle’s Feedback Lounge to create Löwman Bräu, a golden summer Kölsch-style beer that will only be sold at select West Seattle establishments with a portion of each pint sold going to West Seattle-based charities.
Press release:
Wednesday, June 15, 2011 – 7 p.m.
A simultaneous community-wide launch party at The Feedback Lounge, West 5, Shadowland, Mission, Easy Street Records, Big Al Brewing, The Bridge, Locöl, Beveridge Place Pub, Company Bar
The name may sound familiar, but LÖWMAN BRÄU – named in tongue-in-cheek tribute to West Seattle’s Lowman Beach (“the other Alki”) – is a community-based beer designed to celebrate the uniqueness of West Seattle, along with a percentage of every pint sold going to West Seattle-only charities. And keeping with neighborhood pride, it’ll only be sold here. If the rest of Seattle wants to taste it, they have to come across the bridge to West Seattle (Don’t gripe – it’s only 10 minutes away.)
On Wednesday, June 15, 7 p.m., nine West Seattle/White Center bars and restaurants – and one famous record store – will introduce LÖWMAN BRÄU to their neighborhood, with each venue pledging a portion of sales to the West Seattle/White Center charity of their choice. The beer, brewed by Big Al Brewing, is a gold summer Kolsch and will only be available at The Feedback Lounge, West 5, Shadowland, Mission, Easy Street Records, Big Al Brewing, The Bridge, Locöl, Beveridge Place and Company Bar. After July 1st, 2011, only liquor-licensed venues in West Seattle, White Center and Georgetown will be able to offer LÖWMAN BRÄU to their customers.
LÖWMAN BRÄU was conceived and named in 2010 by the owners of the two-year-old Feedback Lounge in West Seattle’s Morgan Junction as a way to “support the community the way the community has supported us.”
“We could’ve kept this one for ourselves,” says Feedback Lounge owner, Jeff Gilbert. “But with the combined energies and distinct personalities of our friends who own really amazing bars and restaurants in West Seattle, we can really make an impact for local charities. When we brought the charity aspect of the beer to the table, no one thought twice and everybody jumped on board. Just another reason why West Seattle is so cool.”
