Three bands will perform during a July 8 fundraiser for West Seattle raised Amanda Knox at the Showbox Sodo, 1700 1st Ave South. not the other Showbox (at the Market) as was previously reported. The family told the West Seattle Herald that the Sodo location charges a lot less for fees to use the room.

Knox’s family is currently in debt over one million dollars because of legal and travel expenses incurred by her three and a half year long murder trial that is now in its appeals phase. She is currently serving a 26-year sentence in prison in Perugia, Italy. If she wins her appeal, she could be released in early September.

The three bands performing are Brian DiJulio & the Love Jacks, Zero Gravity Circus, and The Gifted Program, with special musical guest Tony Montana. Silent auction items include two donations made by Donald Trump, a vocal supporter of Knox. They include an autographed book, and a certificate for a golf foursome at one of his resorts. Some band members who are Seattle Prep graduates volunteered because, they said, they felt a connection to Amanda Knox, who was a Seattle Prep grad, class of '05.

8:30pm-9:15pm: THE GIFTED PROGRAM will play, young funk/punk band.

9:30pm-10:15pm: ZERO GRAVITY CIRCUS, a Phish, Grateful Deadish , Jamtronika band, headed up by Seattle Prep alum and Brian DiJulio's son Bradley DiJulio, from class of '04, Adam Williams also class of '04 and Tyler Carr of the class of '02 also in the band.

10:30pm-11:30pm: Headliners, Brian DiJulio and the Love Jacks. Brian is Seattle Prep class of '79.

11:30pm - approx. 12:30am: They will then be joined by famous guitarist/bassist, Tony Montana, formerly of Great White, and more recently on tour in 2010 in australia with Slash of Guns and Roses.

"This band is a way I felt we can raise awareness in Seattle and hopefully some money for Amanda," said Brian DiJulio, 49. He participated in the Matteo Ricci College Curriculum, attending Seattle Prep for three years, then Seattle University for three years to get his Bachelors Degree. He has run his own financial service company for about 25 years in Bellevue.

"All the band members have read up on the case, and are sympathetic to the cause," he said of Knox's ordeal in Perugia, Italy. "It's a tough subject for some people because if they haven't spent time to learn the facts, they kind of ignore it, or figure Amanda must have done something wrong.

"That's what we were taught at Prep. In your heart you need to look at everything from all angles and not to make snap judgements but really try to find out what the truth is. We didn't just study Catholicism. They had us study four or five different religions. It was controversial with some parents at the time, but I think it taught me to do the right thing."

“It was all their idea,” said Knox’s aunt, Janet Huff, referring to the band members who planned the benefit. “We're coming in last minute with logistics, acquiring auction items, and to help with the auction items itself.” Knox’s aunt, Chris Hagge will help out. Both Huff and Hagge live near Morgan Junction.

“With each band, there is somebody who went to school with Amanda, either through Seattle Prep or UW, or knows Amanda,” said Huff. “They asked us how can they help, and use their talents to raise some money to defend their friend.

“When Donald Trump first came out to support Amanda and said people should start boycotting Italy, I emailed his website and said our family does not condone boycotting Italy,” Huff recalled. “Well, then I got an email back from one of his assistants to discuss this, so I had them talk to (Amanda’s parents) Edda and Curt. They have exchanged emails and calls and that’s how we got his donations.”
