Thu, 06/30/2011
Former West Seattleite, Lorraine Montez is creator, co-executive producer and co-writer of a film now in production called Stop Requested. The film is taking an unusual path to the screen. Montez and the other producers are utilizing a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo. Supporters can help bring Abundant’s newest project to fruition with a monetary donation of their choice. Various fun and interesting incentives are available at different contribution levels. You can also view a trailer for the film there.
So far they've raised more than $5600 toward their $13,000 goal with a total budget of $20,000.
Stop Requested tells the story of a troubled woman named Jess. Haunted by her past and sensitivity to the spiritual realm that she attempts to silence with prescription drugs, she is paralyzed by the mere thought of human contact. Enter Benjamin, an intense, atypical individual who invades Jess’s life with the claim that he is there to help her help herself. And he won’t leave until she does. As Jess experiences more and more intense manifestations of her spiritual gifts, her fate places her squarely in the middle of the age-old struggle between order and chaos, while the battle for souls plays itself out in the lives of seemingly ordinary people.
Montez also plays the lead role of Jess. She possesses extensive professional credits in film and theater; and stepped into writing and producing for film six years ago. She can be seen most recently as the whacky Ruby Marigold in the TV series, shot and produced in West Seattle, The Divine Marigolds and as the tough Trill Major Ulti Natyra on board Star Trek: Phoenix.
Montez and her business partner, Ben Andrews, own Abundant Productions – an indie film and theater production company in Seattle. Abundant has co-executive produced both The Divine Marigolds and Star Trek: Phoenix, which used Schmitz Park as the forest planet of Planet Kattrassi Prime.
Andrews and Montez tapped two West Seattle residents to help produce Stop Requested. Lisa Roeser and Nick Stamulis are in charge of project management, managing the Art and Catering Departments, and keeping the film's multiple departments aligned, integrated and moving forward.
Roeser, also an actress, writer and filmmaker, has been involved in the Seattle arts community for seven years. She launched her acting career in 2003 with the Fringe Festival play Six Degrees of Helen, where she was part of an ensemble cast.
Stamulis is an avid film fan with a strong project management background in the corporate world; his natural affinity for customer service has provided the cast and crew of the film with a strong outcome driven focus.
