The Alaskan Way Viaduct northbound lanes will be closed tonight for the Michelob Ultra Torchlight Run. The run starts at 6:30 pm.
Preparations for the run will close northbound SR 99 between the West Seattle Bridge and the Battery Street Tunnel for several hours starting at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30.
The northbound lanes are expected to reopen by 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
There's a new route for the run this year:
Start Seattle Center at 2nd Avenue and Thomas, South on 2nd Avenue to Denny Way, East on Denny Way to 4th Avenue, South on 4th Avenue on the Alaska Airlines Torchlight Parade Route, Right on Washington Street to 1st Ave in Pioneer Square, Left on 1st Ave to Royal Brougham near the Stadiums, U-turn onto the Upper Level of the viaduct for scenic views of Elliot Bay, the city skyline and the Mountains, Exit at the Western Street Exit, Turn Right onto Broad Street from Western, Turn left on 2nd Ave back to the Finish at Seattle Center.
Southbound lanes to close too
The southbound lanes of SR 99 will be closed from the Battery Street Tunnel to the West Seattle Bridge from 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 30, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, to install a new stormwater drainage system at the south end of the viaduct.
The drainage work is part of construction under way to replace the south end of the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a side-by-side elevated highway. Skanska, WSDOT’s contractor, is on track to complete the southbound lanes of the new SR 99 roadway and start demolishing the southern mile of the viaduct this October.
