“I am just being stupid”
A woman returned home to her SW Webster St home shortly after 11 a.m. on Monday, August 8 and headed outside to do some yard work. As she stepped outside she came face-to-face (a few yards away) with a man standing inside her garage. There were several items stacked at the door and he was holding a machete under his arm. The woman asked, “What the hell are you doing?” to which he replied, “I am just being stupid.” He put the machete down and ran away. The victim described the suspect as “sweating,” with eyes “kinda” close together and a “boyish look.” She was certain she could identify him if she ever saw him again.
The Big Red Bag
Just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 12 a woman shopping at Target on SW Barton shoved some children’s clothing into a big red bag (witnessed by a security guard), grabbed a few small items for purchase and paid for those, but not the red bag’s contents. The security guard approached the woman as she headed towards the exit and asked her to stop. The woman ignored the request and kept pushing her cart outside. The guard grabbed the suspect’s arm and she recoiled, breaking the security guard’s middle fingernail in the process. The guard gave up chase, but not before grabbing the big red bag, and heard the suspect say, “I’m going to beat you up,” as she walked towards her white Lincoln Navigator and drove away. The red bag contained the stolen items worth $165, plus two pair of kids’ shoes with the tags still on that were not from Target. While the security guard spoke with the responding SPD officer in an office, they received a call from a female claiming to be the mother of the suspected thief. According to the report, the mother “wanted to know how to get back the red bag and kids’ shoes.” Police asked her for her daughter/suspect’s name and phone number at which time the caller forgot some basic information, including the daughter’s birth date and address. The officer told her she was welcome to call the Seattle Police anytime, give them the case number, and discuss getting that big red bag and those children’s shoes back.
Admiral Way Trouble
A woman working the night shift at a 4100 block Admiral Way store on Aug. 16 was sweeping the floors and getting ready to close for the night when she noticed three young males walk past the front windows and out of sight. Her final two customers left and the three males walked in with hoods over their heads and bandanas covering their faces. Suspect #1 pulled out a silver handgun, pointed it at the victim and told her “Get on the floor, open the cash register.” The two other suspects came around the counter and pocketed the cash register money, then asked the victim where the safe was. She let them know the store didn’t have a safe and told them they could look around if they wanted to. For the next two minutes the suspects rooted around drawers in the back of the store, then stole the victims wallet and cell phone on their way out. The responding officer told the woman she should download an app for her Android-enabled cell phone that allows her to track its location. She told them she would try it out and call them if it worked. A K-9 search of the area started down an alleyway, but the track was lost. Police were able to recover several fingerprints from the scene since the suspects were not wearing gloves. For those interested in the Android tracking software suggested by police, it is called “Lookout Mobile Security Plan B,” according to the police report.
