The White Center Community Development Association held its dinner and live auction gala Friday night, September 16 at South Seattle Community College in the Jerry Brockey Center. Over 200 guests are planning on attending to celebrate White Center’s global families and the work of the CDA to improve our community.
The fundraiser is for the White Center CDA and all their various programs including Family Connections, neighborhood revitalization, and community building.
One intriguing auction item was "Barista For A Day!" at Dubsea Coffee, 9910 8th Ave. SW, where two friends can go behind the counter and learn the art of making the perfect latte.
Aileen Balahadia is the Executive Director, White Center Community Development Association, or CDA.
"Events are sometimes really hard and stressful to plan," she said. "But you come to this and you go, 'Oh my Gosh'. You are among friends, and family, literally, as well as partners and people you work with, and it's like, it's going to be fine. And it's a fun party and people haven't seen each other in a while. You'll see people clumped together catching up. And of course it's about celebrating our organization and the things we've done over the years."
"I'm here to support the White Center Community Development Association," West Seattle resident and King County Council Member Joe McDermott told the West Seattle Herald. "They do fantastic work with the Highline School District, Southwest Youth and Family Services, and all kinds of people throughout White Center to enrich the community. I admire the work they're doing for the Promise Neighborhood Program partnering with the school district and Southwest Youth and Family Services, developing early learning through college support for children and families and seeking federal funds to support that."
