Chips and salsa and a lot more have become a fixture on Alki for the past five years at Cactus. Now the company is opening a new Cactus in South Lake Union in mid November.
If you've eaten at Cactus on Alki which opened in 2006, you will soon have a chance to enjoy the same flair with flavors at the chain's next iteration of the theme, Cactus at South Lake Union. It's been under construction since June, and is 5000 square feet in size. It will join Madison Park, Alki and Kirkland in the company.
The new location is on the corner of Terry/Harrison, just below Amazon.com's offices.
The new restaurant can seat 150 inside plus a private dining room that can seat up to 40. Also in the plans is a patio to be built this spring that will accommodate another 60 people.
While the exact opening date is not certain the owners, Marc and Bret Chatalas are aiming for Nov. 16.
In the meantime they are holding an event this Friday which is a "Facebook, friends and family event that will support Susan Komen of Puget Sound. We're donating 100% of the revenue from the event and think it will be between $5,000 and $6,000," said Marc. You can make reservations here.
They do a lot of marketing through their Facebook page and are holding a Facebook only lunch--"free lunch for members of our facebook community."
There are some significant differences about the new location Chatalas explained.
"We expect to also do a food cart in front of the restaurant to do quick grab and go food. Great items inspired by our menu that will only be available from the cart and not inside the restaurant. Items like Mexican Tortas and salads. We have all of these busy Amazonians above us and we want to create multiple ways and price points that we can connect with and serve them. We also will be expanding our catering business to service downtown business in ways that weren't possible when we didn't have a downtown presence. With close proximity, we feel like we can deliever the same great food our guests expect from a dine in experience at Cactus."
The company is moving about 10 employees plus longtime manager Jessie Matthias to the new restaurant.
They are also unveiling a new “brand” (a unique logo for each restaurant), and a new web site next week.
