The West Seattle Lions Club is actively seeking good used children's books to recycle them through their book giveaway program. They worked at West Seattle Elementary on Nov. 15 to give Head Start and first graders each one book. The West Seattle Lion's Club, through a program called Destination Reading gave away one book each to Head Start, kindergarten and first grade children at West Seattle Elementary School at 6760 34th Ave. s.w.
The club has given away 650 books since September.
After Christmas the club plans on donating books aimed at older children.

The LIONS CLUB OF WEST SEATTLE
has been serving the West Seattle Community since 1929. It is a charter member of Lions International and meet each Thursday noon at the Senior Center of West Seattle. Like all Lions Clubs, the emphasis is on service in all forms to less fortunate members of the community. In addition, the club supports SIGHTFIRST, a program of Lions International, which is the world's largest blindness prevention program. One of the oldest projects is sponsorship of the Sea Scout Explorer Unit in West Seattle and the Yankee Clipper. Another project is a Scholarship program for graduating high school students from West Seattle. They are supporters of numerous other activities such as glasses for the needy, aid to the blind, Lions Eye Bank, Little League, Diabetes Awareness, Drug Awarness, Youth Exchange, etc. They are supporters of other organizations such as the Senior Center, YMCA, and the Community Centers.
The West Seattle Lions has a separate corporate arm called the West Seattle Lions Club Charitable Foundation or The Scholarship Fund of the Lions Club of West Seattle which is exempt from federal income tax under IRS code section 501(c)(3). All charitable activities are funneled through this organization.
