SLIDESHOW: Chief Sealth girls make it look easy against Rainier Beach with 54-12 win

Chief Sealth and Rainier Beach girls’ basketball teams took the court Friday night after the boys game at Chief Sealth. This game proved to be all Chief Sealth from the get go with a big victory for the Seahawks 54-12. Great defense and being able to get easy, close range shots was the key to their success.

Chief Sealth played tough aggressive defense throughout the game, forcing 20 Rainier Beach turnovers which lead to easy shots for the Seahawks. Rainier Beach just couldn’t get things to click, forcing a lot of bad shots resulting in air balls and plenty of turnovers. The Seahawks also had success from deep range, knocking down several three pointers.
Seahawks junior forward Mariah Rubio-Reboca led the game in scoring with 11, followed closely by guards Victoria Elleby, and Samantha Scroggins who both scored 10. Even with the big win head coach Katie Jo Maris said, “I think we played alright, I wanted us to be able to execute a lot better, I was very pleased with how our defense played.” She added that she is also very excited for the season and wishes Rainier Beach the best of luck, “They are a growing program just like us.”
