Update for 4:30 pm, March 6
It was a scary afternoon for parents and students and Denny Junior High, Chief Sealth High School and Roxhill Elementary as all three schools were shifted into either lockdown or "shelter in place" mode after a shooting occurred at Westwood Village around 1 p.m. on March 6.
Southwest Precinct Captain Steve Paulsen and Operations Lt. Pierre Davis provided details this afternoon on what is known so far:
Police responded to Westwood Village around 12:30 p.m. to reports of shots fired. Officers located two witnesses and one uncooperative victim "who appeared to be intoxicated." The victim told police he exited the liquor store and someone punched him in the face, then stole his basketball jersey and a bottle of Hennessy Cognac. The victim said he heard several gunshots but was uncertain where they came from.
There were no injuries or property damage in the shooting.
SPD notified Chief Sealth administrators and they decided to place the school in lockdown.
"This was more precautionary than necessary," Captain Paulsen wrote in an email detailing the incident. "The SW Precinct and Seattle Public School Administrators worked well to ensure the safety of our students."
"Our Denny and Chief Sealth students were never in any danger," Lt. Davis added.
Gang detectives arrived at the scene and processed for evidence. No arrests have been made at this time.
Captain Paulsen said Southwest Precinct officers "will provide high visibility patrol in the area, particularly when schools get out for the next week."

Around 1 p.m. on March 6 Denny Middle School and Chief Sealth High School were placed on lockdown after reports of shots fired in Westwood Village. Roxhill Elementary was placed under a "shelter in place" designation, according to Teresa Wippel with Seattle Public Schools.
We are still waiting on the official recount of events from SPD, but Wippel said police were after a suspect who ran in the direction of Chief Sealth and Denny, prompting the lockdown.
As of 2:30 p.m. all lockdowns and shelter in place designations were lifted and students will be let out at their regular scheduled times, with buses running on schedule, Wippel said.
There is a difference between lockdown and shelter in place designations, Wippel said. In lockdowns, all the doors are locked, window blinds are drawn, children and faculty seek shelter and school activities are suspended. In shelter in place situations, the doors to the school are locked but school activities continue on as scheduled.
