Students from FEEST (Food Empowerment Education Sustainability Team) in collaboration with White Center Community Development Association, Chief Sealth High School and Neighborhood House have planned the 4th Annual Youth Summit entitled BOOM: Noise that Matters - Our Stories Build the Future.
On May 4th, 75 to 150 young people will gather at Highpoint Center on 6400 Sylvan Way from 3pm till 10pm to discuss the issues they have identified as most important to their community.
This year summit’s focus is advocacy. Students are gathering to use their stories and experiences to educate and potentially influence policy makers about how the issues of food access, community violence and dating violence affect them and what solutions should be considered. After an all youth workshop session led by FEEST, Naked Truth and Asian Pacific Islander Family and Children’s Safety Center, elected and appointed officials will gather with students to dialogue and share stories from 6:45pm-7:45pm.
Confirmed attendees include Representative Sharon Santos, Representative Eileen Cody, Policy Advisor the King County Executive Office Anna Markee, Policy Advisor for the Mayor’s Office Sharon Lerman, Representatives from Office of Superintendent for Public Instruction, a member of the Mayors Youth Commission and members of the Legislative Youth Advisory Council.
An afterparty will be held from 8-10pm with DJ Daps One and food from local restaurants.
This event was made possible with the financial support of the Seattle Foundation and Schools Out Washington.
