A proposed sculpture designed by artist Lezlie Jane called "Luna Girls" would look like the above artist rendering in the setting where it is intended to perch, once built, on the Alki Beach Promenade, at 63rd and Alki Ave SW, West Seattle. Donors are needed to realize this project.
From the colorful mosaic bird guarding Cormorant Cove Park at 3701 Beach Drive SW to the swirling array of Swimming Stars at Whale Tail Playground, 5817 SW Lander St. and 58th Ave SW , many have happily stumbled upon the West Seattle artwork of sculptor Lezlie Jane.
The above image is an artist's rendering of what a proposed sculpture called "Luna Girls" would look like in the setting where it is intended to perch, once built, on the Alki Beach Promenade, upon that sort of cement island surrounded by 63rd and Alki Ave SW across the street from the Alki Arts Gallery. and the Cactus Restaurant
According to the Luna Girls website, "The 3 individual figures are created from heavy steel, cut to look like lines drawn in the air. The black lines in the above image represent the cut steel. All else is cut away leaving empty space so one can see through the Girls and easily enjoy the view.
"Their grace belies the strength and durability of the steel that forms them. The thick cut steel is left natural to develop a maintenance-free patina. The top of each Girl’s head is approximately 6 feet high. The surrounding grounds will be paved with cobblestone when the Luna Girls are permanently installed."
Lezlie Jane was invited by the Seattle Parks Department to create an art proposal for the revised sidewalk area. The SPD plan includes two newly landscaped gardens featuring beach plants and hand-selected driftwood on either side of the Artwork.
City funding is not provided for the art. Private donors are invited to sponsor the Luna Girls.
Three sponsorships are available, one for each Girl.
A tax deductible contribution of $10,000 will support the creation and permanent installation of one of the three Luna Girl sculptures. A sponsor may be an individual, a family, a group, or a business.
