Bailey, owned by Patricia Glen is a service dog and an unusual breed from Madagascar called a Coton De Tuléar. He's seven years old. "Coton means cotton so he's as soft as a cotton ball," said Glen, "I say he's a living stuffed animal. He just loves to snuggle and he's happy."

She got Bailey in Spanaway from a woman who trained him and she and Bailey get around the West Seattle Junction pretty well. "Most people in the Junction know him."

Bailey was actually born in Germany. "A woman brought him back here to breed and he sired three litters. His puppies sold for $2400." He has since been neutered.

Glen said that Bailey is very very calm."He's calm with other animals and with people," she explained, "and so he's not a barker. He's not a yipper. If someone comes to the door he'll bark but once they are inside and I know them he's fine.
I take him to restaurants and he sits at my feet and people don't know he's there. He also travels well. He's just so easy and full of love."

In the winter, Bailey exhibits an unusual behavior. He loves snow but beyond just eating it, he will go outside and stick his tongue out to catch flakes.
He's also a very fastidious dog. "After he eats he washes his face. "He lays down and takes both paws and to me, he's washing his face."

Bailey is a companion and wants to be in the same room as Patricia at all times. "If I move from room to room I quietly notice, there he is."

Bailey loves his squeaker toys and stuffed animals.

He's fed a dry dog food from Costco with a tablespoon of wet food mixed in.
But he's not an overeater. His food is out all the time but, "he only eats when he's hungry." This applies to treats too.

Glen wants people to understand that service dogs are not like normal dogs in certain ways. "They take their relationship with their owner very seriously. If he cannot see me or hear me, he gets very anxious. Other than that he's very peaceful. I'd like people to know they play an important role in people's lives and that he makes my life much more manageable. I'd recommend this breed to anybody."

The breed does not shed, and is very long lived, sometimes beyond the age of 20. "I tell him we're going to grow old together."
