The move to White Center and the former Papa's Pub is complete and Meanders is set to open in a sneak preview this Friday, October 26. Owner Miranda Krone posted on their Facebook wall that, "not only will be be opening this Friday, Saturday & Sunday for a sneak preview in our new White Center location, but also that the planets have lined up in such a way as to bring us the great fortune of Matthew Wolfson joining our team as the new front of house manager! How awesome is that?!?! "

She also shared that,"The folks at Graffix are getting a banner sign together for us, so we'll have that by Friday...whoo hoo!"

Meander's Kitchen, (Facebook page here) which has built a loyal West Seattle following since it opened in the former Jade West space at 6023 California Ave. s.w. in 2010, then expanded next door in 2011, will move to the former space occupied by Papa's Pub on 16th Ave. s.w.

The date of the opening is yet to be determined but it is mostly likely going to be in December. Krone confirms she has signed a lease. "We take possession October 1st," said owner Miranda Krone, " and I want to give myself two months to get ready."

Papa's, at 9635 16th Ave s.w. was a troubled location and the focus of law enforcement in February. The bar subsequently lost their liquor license.

Meanders has been in the hunt for a new location recently due to size limitations in their current space. They've considered spaces on Delridge and elsewhere but finally settled on the White Center space. "It's huge," said Krone, " I think it's like 5000 square feet." She plans on opening part of the kitchen in the White Center space too. "There used to be a more extensive kitchen. They had drywalled off part of it but we would take that out so that the folks at the bar can watch us cook," making it a "open kitchen."

They would like to stay open in the current location too but that is not certain. She acknowledged that it is need of some upgrades so that might be a factor. "We're talking about it and will come to a decision at the end of this month," Krone said.

If they do, the existing space would downsize as a restaurant and become a combination restaurant bookstore with only the counter seats and table. "I want to get back to being chatty with the customers. We have so many amazing regulars from here in the neighborhood. We've lost a lot of people just because they can't get a seat."

That points up the somewhat surprising lack of restaurants with breakfast in West Seattle. "There's us and then there's always a wait at Endolyne Joes. Same thing with Easy Street." The closure of Charlestown Cafe last year left a hole in the breakfast business in the community that others are overflowing to fill. "Somebody with a lot more capital than me should move in and open one," Krone said.

"I'm excited about the move," she said, "We could hold banquets there!"
There will very likely be some menu expansion in the new location with items that they have not yet served in the West Seattle location. "We've got a bigger grill, we've got more star burners and we've got a fryer. I think we'll probably squeeze in some lunch time things and offer dinner service over there too with things like Po'Boy Sandwiches or Corn Meal Breaded Fried Catfish with Sweet Potato Fries."

Krone is thrilled with the support she's gotten since the Herald broke the story. "The community has been so supportive. They've been incredible with a huge outpouring of support for the restaurant."

White Center resident Joanna Abbott-Moss said, "I'm totally thrilled they are moving to White Center. Now we can walk to somewhere that's good."

While White Center has for many decades been a place to get a drink, Krone has no plans to serve alcohol at least at first. "I want it to be known for serving great hashbrowns first!"
