Metro confirms that bus routes are back to normal now.

The gas line break on California Ave SW happened according to SDOT officials on the scene because crews were using a concrete saw to cut through a damaged road panel in preparation for repaving set to start in a few weeks. In the process they "cut through a shallow gas line," a spokesperson said.

Puget Sound Energy sub contractor InfraSource responded to the break by excavating the spot near the break but said that the repair would take more time and extend well into the evening since it required going under the existing road bed. The road surface would then be covered until paving could be completed.

A gas line break, near Brace Point Drive SW and California Ave (an area just east of the Fauntleroy ferry dock) has held up traffic and disrupted bus routes in West Seattle since the break happened shortly after 10:30 this morning.

Seattle Fire crews and PSE crews are on the scene and are working to repair the break.

The workers are on the south side of the Hall at Fauntleroy.

RapidRide is delayed on stops in West Seattle though they are picking up at Westwood Village, heading northbound. Alternate routes to avoid the road closure at Fauntleroy Hall are causing delays.

Metro estimates delays in service until 1:15 p.m., although it could extend depending on the gas line work timeline.
