The Shipwreck Tavern at 4210 SW Admiral Way closed its doors for good on Sunday, November 18, 2012.
Approximate 50 people came by to wish a farewell and to recall the fond memories they had before bidding a final goodbye.
Two bands performed for the closing, Daughters of the Dead Sea and Hobosexual.
Chris Long, Owner of The Shipwreck Tavern spoke with the West Seattle Herald.
"The Shipwreck Tavern opened back on October 10, 2009. The building was vacant for 5 years before that and TNT's was running the place. The reason why it's closing is because of money issues. As far as the future goes, I have a masonry business on the side already so I'll probably focus on that and then I was a chef for a long time. I was a chef at the Hyatt in Bellevue and then the Homestead that burned down. As far as my feelings for the place it went pretty good, everyone's being very supportive tonight and it's really fun and it was a great run while it lasted."
Patron Brian Nowka said, " I was very close friends with Chris when he decided to open it and we were all out of a job because we worked at a place where it burned down and he decided to start his own business and I was willing to come help him bartend. I was one of the first bartenders to help the place. It saddens me a little bit because I thought it was a cool place and I believed in the dream of it and it's sad to see it go."
Customer Indianna White said, " When I first moved to West Seattle I asked around where the cool spots to go were and they told me to go to the Shipwreck. I have been coming here for 5 years and its so sad that it has to go, its been a piece of West Seattle that's gonna be gone, not gonna have it anymore. The place was really homey feeling, the owners were really nice, everyone knew each other, people could bring their own pets inside and you didn't have to worry about anything, and it was in a really great location."
While the bar is now closed you can still secure a keepsake from it for the next few days.
Monday, November 19 through Wednesday, November 21, 2012, from 2pm-8pm people can stop by and buy the cool mugs, and more swag from the Shipwreck's storehouse of memories.
