Meat the live butcher, the artisan butcher shop owned former Bernie and Boys Tom Salle opened on Dec. 2 and was crowded with customers almost immediately. The shop kept up the pace all day, according to Salle, who was just relieved to finally get the shop open after many months in development.
The shop at 9432 16th Ave. SW is in the former Benton's Realty location and offers beef, pork, sausage, and coldcuts and cheese but right now no poultry. Salle said he would be bringing in chicken and lamb sometime next week and would like to get going on turkey parts with his new computer controlled smoker soon. Over time Salle said he would bring in buffalo, sauces, and seasonings. Specialty packages will also be available.
Walls in the shop are decorated with dozens of news clippings, photos and right in the middle a photo of Tom's father Bernie who started it all.
Also on display is a banner made to honor fallen King County Sheriff's Deputy Steve Cox. Among the visitors on the first day were Major Graddon and newly elected Sheriff John Urquhart who came by to say hello.
The shops hours are a little flexible as they get going but you can call them at 206-762-6328.
