The annual GIFTS FROM THE EARTH dinner Jan. 26 raised nearly $185,000, which is a new record according to South Seattle Community College.
Proceeds from the event will benefit SSCC's Foundation in its mission to provide support for students with scholarships, program equipment, emergency funding, tutoring and more.
“Each year this event just gets better and better,” President Gary Oertli explained. “The funds raised tonight make an immeasurable difference for our students and future students. Words cannot express our gratitude to our generous supporters.”
The dinner featured an all-star line-up of chefs from across the city with help from students from the college's award-winning Culinary Program.
Most of the wine served was produced from a graduate in SSCC's Wine Program, or from current students in the program. Students from the Hospitality Program managed the event from start to finish.
“Tonight, was certainly a night to remember,” Oertli said.
