Scoring in every inning including four runs in the fifth, the mercy rule is invoked in the fifth inning after a dominating performance over the Quakers of Franklin High at the SWAC.

Starting pitcher Isac Bauer did have a shaky day on the mound hitting leadoff batters in the first and second inning and walking the leadoff batter in the third. Bauer did settle down and pitched his way out of the innings but Policarpio pulled Bauer in the top of the third when Franklin loaded the bases with two outs. Blaine Steele came to the rubber in a situation that can scare the heck out of any pitcher but Steele- an appropriate name- got the next Quaker batter to ground out preserving a 4-0 lead. Aidan Behar scored in the fifth when Merle rowan- Kennedy grounded out at first allowing Behar to race home from third and it was 5-0 Sealth.

Steele was dominant in the fourth striking out the first two Franklin batters and getting the third batter to ground out at first. His opposite Quaker pitcher Elijah Brown did far as well hitting three batters and walking three others. Brown was pulled in the fifth facing an 8-0 deficit and the bases loaded with only one out. His replacement didn’t fare any better, walking the next batter to bring another Seahawk runner home making it 9-0. The next Sealth batter smacked a floater into shallow left field to drive in what would be the winning run giving the Seahawks a 10-0 lead and forcing the mercy rule into effect and the game was called by the umpire.

Coach Policarpio wasn’t afraid to use his team speed to challenge the Quaker defense with three successful stolen bases during the game.

Scoring runs in every inning combined with pitching and defense the Seahawks allowed the Quakers only a few opportunities in this game. Like a carrot those opportunities dangled out in space but just when Franklin reached for the carrot the Seahawks pulled it away and left them nothing. Outstanding relief pitching by Blaine Steele was a major factor in the win.

There was a scary moment in the when Sealth ace pitcher Marley “Sniper” Lucas was given the steal sigh and raced to second successfully but upon sliding to second Lucas caught his ankle awkwardly on the bag and came up limping. Lucas would have to be carried off the field. His injury seemed minor and he’s expected to recover quickly.

Sealth will face these same Quakers on the road on Friday.
